Why document a person’s life?
It may be as simple as wanting to remember their stories...
...of hearing those stories told with their own inflection and gestures.
What would it be like for a great-great grandchild to hear these
stories,
to really know their family’s history…
...or for the lessons of a lifetime to be handed down from
generation to generation?
A person’s life-work may have such great influence...
Whether he or she has made a significant contribution to society or
simply influenced a single community or individual,
there may be great value in documenting the way one has pursued
life.
This may take the form of an inspiring story in the instance of someone
who’s traveled extensively, made a scientific discovery, composed
beautiful music,
...or it may be an act of sharing wisdom from a spiritual leader
or contemplative thinker.
The Process
The process begins with an initial, informal interview, reflecting upon
some of the significant experiences and events that have marked your
life. In this first meeting, we'll also draw out a timeline of your life
experiences and events. This will give us a framework for crafting the
subsequent interviews and adding in creative components throughout the
video.
In the second meeting, we'll schedule the remaining interviews, which
will include interviews with friends and family members who are willing
to participate. The interviews with friends and family will add
sentiment and depth to the video for those who will enjoy it for years
to come. We'll also look through old photos, letters, and other special
items that you'd like to include in the video, and start identifying
where they fit into your story.
The subsequent interviews will comprise of exploring each individual era
of your life. Though the interviews will be very freeform and
conversational, allowing you to naturally let thoughts come to mind,
they'll also be guided with questions that will encourage various angles
of reflection. Other elements of the video will combine a
photojournalistic approach to documenting your present day life, and
music that will tie everything together.
